Officials said that Manish alias Saravatham Shetty, who hailed from Koppa ,is a close associate of underworld don, Bannanje Raja and had settled down in the city for the past 20 years.

Criminal cases were registered against him in Mangaluru and Mumbai for extortion, threatening people with murder and cheating.Commissioner of Police, Kamal Pant said that the accused opened fire using a SBML gun and attacked him a couple of times using a machete.
“Manish fell down and when the accused tried to flee, they fell down too from the scooter. So they abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. We have received a few positive clues and all the senior police officers are at the spot investigating the scene. We have formed nine teams and we will soon trace the accused,” he said.

A senior officer said that Manish was earlier convicted in a case and had links with the underworld don, Bannanje Raja, with whom he had joint investments. Investigations are on.
