  • On Day 5 of the 3rd Test against Australia, Ajinkya Rahane’s men had their back against the wall while chasing 407 runs against Tim Paine’s men. Many thought the match was done and dusted as Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara was removed by Josh Hazlewood with the scoreboard reading 272/5.

Vihari response to Babul Supriyo

  • To add to India’s injury woes, new batsman Hanuma Vihari, who was playing for his spot in the Test team, pulled a hamstring and wasn’t looking comfortable at the crease. But instead of walking back to the dressing room, Vihari continued to bat and went on to stitch a match-saving 62-run partnership with R Ashwin.
  • While Vihari’s resilience won him huge praise from all corners, Union Minister Babul Supriyo was not happy with his slow approach as he took to Twitter to share his views.
  • “Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least•Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal. PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket,” Supriyo tweeted.
  • Supriyo’s tweet created an outrage among cricket fans who asked him to focus on politics and not cricket.
  • Vihari also took to Twitter to react to Supriyo’s tweet as he highlighted a glaring error where the minister had misspelled his surname as Bihari. “*Hanuma Vihari,” the Indian batsman wrote.

  • After saving the match for India, Vihari has been ruled out of the 4th Test against Australia. Vihari showed cricket fans across the globe why Test cricket is the most challenging format of the game as he batted for two and a half hours, battling severe pain, and scored an unbeaten 23 off 161 balls.
Hanuma Vihari out for 6 weeks
  • As reported by ANI, Vihari suffered a Grade 2 tear which will take close to six weeks to recover. It means he might not feature in India’s upcoming Test series against England as well.
“His scan reports are in and he has a Grade 2 tear which means the boy batted for around 3 hours with searing pain. He deserves praise for standing there and holding fort like a true champion,” the source said.
  • Ahead of the Test series against Australia, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had named Vihari as one of the players he was looking forward to in the tournament.
Ajinkya Rahane lauds Vihari
  • Heaping praise on Vihari’s knock in the 2nd innings, stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane lauded the batsman for hanging in there despite getting injured very early in his innings.
