India set to begin world’s biggest vaccination drive; it’s the beginning of end of COVID-19: Harsh Vardhan

  • New Delhi: A day ahead India’s kickstarts world’s biggest vaccination drive against COVID-19, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Friday said that it is the beginning of the end of coronavirus pandemic.
  • India’s exercise to vaccinate its population against COVID19 shall be the largest immunisation drive of the world, Vardhan said. The union minister reiterated that both the indigenously manufactured vaccines, COVISHIELD and COVAXIN, have proven safety and immunogenicity records and are the most important tools to contain the pandemic.
    “Tomorrow is an important day…it is the last phase of the battle against coronavirus. I say this is probably the beginning of the end of COVID now which is going to start tomorrow,” Vardhan asserted.
  • Vardhan today visited the dedicated COVID Control Room at the Union Health Ministry in Delhi to review the preparedness for nationwide vaccination drive that commences on Saturday. The control room has been set up at the Nirman Bhawan premises of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Covishield, manufactured by Oxford-AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin have been given the approval by Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) against coronavirus infection for restricted emergency use.
