HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bounced back to winning ways in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Thursday with a clinical performance against KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)  at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Sunrisers hammered Kings XI Punjab by 69 runs to bag their third win of the season after a brilliant all-round performance.
  • SRH openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow stole the show for their side with a stellar opening stand of 160 runs which took the game away from KXIP.
  • Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sunrisers were off to a flyer as Warner and Bairstow made a mockery of the KXIP bowling attack.
  • Bairstow looked in destructive touch as he slammed a stunning 97 off just 55 balls laced with 7 fours and 6 sixes. He missed out on a well-deserved hundred by just 3 runs but set the tone for a huge total.

  • Warner played the anchor’s role to perfection with 52 off 40 balls with the help of 6 fours and a solitary six.

  • The duo added 160 runs for the first wicket before being dismissed in the 16th over by young Ravi Bishnoi, who bowled exceptionally well under pressure. Bishnoi helped KXIP pull things back after the dismissals of Warner and Bairstow.
  • SRH lost the wickets of Manish Pandey and Abdul Samad in quick succession but a cameo of 10-ball 20 from Kane Williamson and 6-ball 12 from Abhishek Sharma saw them go past the 200-run mark as they managed to post 201/6 on the board in 20 overs.
  • In reply, Kings XI Punjab got off to a shaky start losing in-form Mayank Agarwal cheaply on 9 off just 6 balls.
  • Captain KL Rahul also failed to deliver as he was dismissed after scoring 11 off 16 balls. Nicholas Pooran launched a fightback for KXIP with a quickfire 77 off 37 balls.

  • But he failed to find support from the other end as KXIP’s middle-order continued to disappoint. The likes of Glenn Maxwell (7), Mandeep Singh (1) and young Prabhsimran Singh (11) all failed to make an impact with the willow.
  • It was an excellent combined effort from SRH bowlers right from the start till the end as they kept getting breakthroughs at regular intervals. Rashid Khan showed his class yet again finishing with magnificent figures of 3/12 in his 4 overs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad wins

Natrajan hits the last nail in the coffin and gets Arshdeep Singh caught at mid-off by David Warner. Kings XI Punjab all-out for 132, Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 69 runs with 19 balls to spare.
