New Delhi: In a piece of good news for Chandrayaan-2 mission, the premier space agency on Sunday said that it has located Lander Vikram on the moon.

“We have found the location of Vikram Lander on lunar surface and orbiter has clicked a thermal image of Lander,” Dr K Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) told ANI.

However, he added that there is no communication with the Lander yet and the scientists are still trying to have contact. “It will be communicated soon,” he added.

The Lander Vikram which was part of Chandrayaan-2 had lost communication with the ground control two minutes before it was scheduled to make a soft landing on the moon on Saturday night. Several attempts by the scientists at Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru to form a link did not yield results, following which the space agency had issued a statement sa

The Lander had followed the planned trajectory from its orbit of 35 kms to just 2.1 kms above the lunar surface. All the systems and sensors of the Lander functioned well untill 13 minutes of the powered descent.

While it still remains an extremely challenging exercise to communicate with the Lander and retrieve any kind of data, ISRO scientists remain optimistic. Dr Sivan had told DD News in an interview on Saturday that the team would try its best to connect with the Lander over the next 14 days.

ying the data is being analyzed to find out what exactly happened.
