Mr. Apparao Mallavarapu appointed Honorary Consul of Brazil—Bengaluru, September 20, 2019

Mr. Apparao Mallavarapu, a distinguished and well recognized entrepreneur, has been appointed as Honorary Consul of Brazil in July 2018.

Mr. Mallavarapu’s experience in the field of mechanical engineering, both in India and in North America, his many connections with the business community along his deep sense of responsibility towards unfortunate children are very well recognized.

The Ambassador of Brazil in India, H.E. André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, participated in the opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate on the 20th September 2019.

On the opening of the new office in the third most populous city of India, Ambassador Corrêa do Lago reiterated the relevance of Brazil’s diplomatic relations with India and the importance of Brazilian presence in Bengaluru.

He recognized the pivotal role of Bengaluru as a pole of innovation, science and technology, not only for India but also for Asia.

The Ambassador underlined Bengaluru’s position among the 10 most entrepreneurial metropolis in the world, and remembered that it is referred as the “Silicon Valley of India”.

The Honorary Consulate in Bengaluru has an important role in promoting economic and cultural ties between Brazil and India. It will serve as liaison with the business community and cater to the increasing number of Brazilians visiting this part of India.

It is a relevant part of the Brazilian Honorary Consular network in India, with the Honorary Consulates in Kolkata and Hyderabad. The three Honorary Consulates work in strong coordination with the Embassy in New Delhi and the Consulate General in Mumbai.

Sharing his thoughts, Mr. Apparao Mallavarapu said, “I am honored to be appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Brazilian Consulate.  The opening of the Consulate will help in strengthening bilateral ties as well as cultural exchange between the two countries.”

Mr. Mallavarapu added “There are already a few Brazilian companies operating in Bangalore and Bangalore based companies operating in Brazil and my goal will be to build these success stories to promote two-way trade in between the two countries.

For example, Brazil has a very strong Aerospace Industry lead by Embraer and India has a strong Space Industry and these are new areas one could focus and bring the two countries closer.

Also, there is a strong interest from Brazilian academic Institutions to work closely with academic institutions in Karnataka for mutual benefit. Of course, a lot more can be done on the tourism and culture front as both the countries are popular tourist destinations.”

Mr. Apparao Mallavarapu- A Profile

Mr. Apparao Mallavarapu (Rao) is the founder and Chairman and Managing Director of Centum Electronics Limited Bangalore, a publicly listed company on the National & Mumbai Stock Exchanges. Rao received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University and also has a Master’s Degree from Dal-Tech University in Canada. He is a Ford foundation scholar.
