In a step to ban plastic, the kalaburagi Mahanagar palike is raiding different market areas and commercial complexes wherein plastic found is seized and the business is penalized accordingly.
Today the KMP team reached Asian mall to conduct the plastic raid, where both the retailers and kmp officials had a heated argument.

“We accept & respect the plastic ban, but KMP officials method of the raid is strictly not acceptable, and the way they are behaving with the shop keepers is disgraceful”. says Hyder Adil (on behalf of Asian mall business association).
On the other hand, KMP official Ms. Sushma says “The shop owners need to understand why are we doing this raid, and shall respect the officials & show respect to lady officials and behave well”.
This looks a new start of a chapter for the plastic ban in the city which was initiated a few months back and could not continue after assembly elections.
- If KMP provides an alternative first, spread the alternative method for a matter of 6 months, then the shop owners will have some time to get used.
- Stopping the plastic manufacturers first will have an immediate effect on the distribution.
Plastic is indeed harmful to the environment, but banning this and raiding rapidly will make local citizens have a tough job. We need to understand this will take some time, hope we all move ahead to save the environment.
