1. Why Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August?
Though India unofficially got its independence on July 18, 1947, however, 15 August was officially decided because of Mountbatten. He chose this day because this day was also recognized as the second anniversary of Japan’s surrender to the Allied Forces in World War II.
2.Value of Gold
At the time of independence, the value of 10 grams of gold was Rs 88.62, and now it is around Rs 26,000 per 10 grams.
3.No National Anthem
India had no national anthem when it became an independent country on 15th August 1947.It was adopted as India’s national anthem later in the 1950s. The Bengali version of Jana Gana Mana was written by Rabrindranath Tagore in 1911 which was first sung during the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress.
4.Prime Minister’s Speech
Independence Day is celebrated by the Indian Government at the Red Fort in New Delhi.The Prime Minister addresses the whole nation by giving a speech that is broadcasted all throughout the country.
5.The Celebrations :
The Speech of Prime Minister is followed by marching of divisions of the Indian Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces. Parades and pageants showcase scenes from the independence struggle and India’s diverse cultural traditions
