Karnataka Hijab Row Verdict has been announced today, on March 15, 2022. Amid all the tension and eyes on this judgement, the Hijab ban has been upheld by the Karnataka High Court. Following are the guidelines released by the state that pertain to Uniforms in educational institutions.

It must be noted that these guidelines on Uniforms were also in a way challenged by petitioners during the entire Hijab row. Further, students and stakeholders must note that these Uniform guidelines are not new and are as per government directive. The Court has also ‘reiterated’ them for the ‘ease of reference.’

In government schools of the state, the dress code that must be followed must be prescribed by the government and any changes to it must be avoided.

When it comes to Private Schools, the dress code or uniforms prescribed by the school management must be followed duly.

For dress code in Karnataka PUC Colleges, the order states, “in Pre–University colleges that come within the jurisdiction of the Department of the Pre–University Education, as prescribed by the College Development Committee or College Supervision Committee.”

However, where no uniform is prescribed, “such attire that would accord with ‘equality & integrity’ and would not disrupt the ‘public order’.
