School adoption initiative can go a long way ahead: Yediyurappa

  • Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa Tuesday said that the initiative of letting government schools to be adopted by organisations, universities, and philanthropists can go a long way ahead, with prompt follow-ups.

  • Distributing adoption certificates in a ceremony hosted by the Primary and Secondary Education department in Vidhana Soudha, he appealed to the philanthropists to visit schools that have been adopted at least once in three to four months.
    “Parents of these school students can also be invited for interactions on good parenting to ensure their wards become productive members of the society,” Yediyurappa suggested.
  • According to Prof. MR Doreswamy, advisor to the government on education reforms, a total of 1,414 schools have been adopted as of October by universities (both state-run and private), film artists, politicians, IT companies, and individuals into philanthropy.

  • For instance, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences had adopted 10 schools in Bengaluru. These include Karnataka Public School, Adugodi; Govt PU College, Madiwala; Govt Model Primary School, Adugodi; Govt Model Primary School, Gottigere; Govt Higher Primary School, NS Palya; Govt Kannada Medium Primary School, Alahalli; Karnataka Model Primary School, Domlur; Karnataka Higher Primary School, Doopanahalli; Karnataka Higher Primary School, Tavarekere; Karnataka Higher Primary School, Weaver’s Colony.
  • Earlier, the Karnataka government had also made it mandatory for legislators to adopt at least three schools to ensure the development of basic infrastructure.
