KEY STORY

  • Indian captain Virat Kohli was upbeat in training ahead of the hosts’ day-night Test against England at the newly-renovated Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
  • Kohli, who is a livewire both on and off the pitch, was spotted imitating the likes of Jacques Kallis and Steve Smith during Team India’s training session at the stadium.

The clips of Kohli copying the batting and bowling action of the two greats of the game went viral on social media.
  • Kohli did come close to almost perfectly copying Kallis’ bowling action but his imitation of Smith’s batting was hilarious and left many in splits on social media.

Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had also shared a clip of Kohli bowling in the training session along with the likes of R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav ahead of the third Test in Ahmedabad.
The Indian captain, who used to be a part-time bowler at the start of his international career, has refrained from bowling in the past few years and continues to focus on his batting.
One of the best batsmen in the world at present, Kohli has bowled for India in all three formats of the game and his last wicket for the Men in Blue came against West Indies during the T20 World Cup in 2016.
However, Kohli’s focus will solely be on letting his bat do the talking in the pink-ball Test as the Indian captain will look to bring an end to his century drought in Ahmedabad.
The four-match series is currently locked at 1-1 and the pink-ball Test will be a crucial one for both sides. India won their only pink-ball Test they played at home against Bangladesh in 2019.
