‘I’m free bird, don’t like people with arms around me’: Asaduddin Owaisi on Amit Shah’s Z security offer

  • Rejecting Union Minister Amit Shah’s security proposal, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that he does not like people with arms around him and that he was a “free bird”.
  • The Hyderabad MP further said that the value of his life is not more than people who died during the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
  • Shah on Monday requested the AIMIM president to accept Z category protection, offered by the Central government after a recent firing on his convoy, saying he still faces security threat.
  • “Today in Parliament, Home Minister Amit Shah asked me to accept Z category security. I want to say to him that value of my life is not more than 22 people who died during the CAA protest. I don’t like people with arms around me,” he said.
  • The AIMIM leader further said that he was a “free bird” and that he wants to live freely.
  • Making a statement in Rajya Sabha, the Home Minister said the Hyderabad MP has refused to take the CRPF protection.
  • “We have reassessed the security of Owaisi. We have provided him in Delhi a bullet-proof car under all India level Z category security of Central Reserve Police Force on the basis of assessment,” Shah said.

CONCLUSION

  • “As per the verbal information sent by Owaisi to us, he has refused to take security. I request Shri Owaisi through this House to take the security immediately and address our concern (about his safety),” he said in the Upper House.
  • Some unidentified miscreants opened fire at the car of the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on February 3 in Uttar Pradesh. However, Owaisi escaped unhurt and reached Delhi safely.
  • Two people were arrested after the incident and arms were also recovered
