Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka has made some changes to its earlier announcement of night curfew in the state, which was to be imposed starting 10 pm on Wednesday till 6 am on January 2. The government has announced the changes within hours of making the initial announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

As per the fresh information, the night curfew will be imposed from 11 pm on Thursday (December 24) till 5 am on January 2. Further, the curfew will be in place from 11 pm to 5 am, instead of 10 pm to 6 am announced earlier in the day.

The Chief Minister’s Office stated that except for essential activities, movement of individuals will be prohibited during the night curfew.
“No restrictions on goods vehicles, movement of long-distance buses/trains/air services during the night curfew. Employees of industries and companies, which require 24/7 operations, will be allowed,” the state government said.

The CMO informed that during the night curfew, special rituals including midnight Mass can be held without interruption on Christmas night (December 25).

Celebration of Christmas and New Year festivities shall be as per the guidelines issued in 17th December order, the CMO stated.

Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar had earlier in the day informed the media that the authorities have started monitoring international passengers arriving into the state.
“This (night curfew) has been done to prevent and contain the coronavirus strain found in the UK. We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state,” Sudhakar told reporters.

“Between December 23 and January 2, no function or festive celebration is allowed to take place after 10 pm. It applies to every kind of functions,” the minister had informed, when asked to clarify if Christmas celebrations would be allowed on December 25 in the state. However, the government has now allowed partial Christmas celebrations as stated above.
