After a dominating win in the opening Test match, India will host Sri Lanka in the pink-ball Test match in Bengaluru from March 12 to 16. The home team has been undefeated in the series so far and another win is on the cards for the Rohit Sharma-led side.

The 2nd Test will be a day-night affair and will be played with pink balls at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The venue is a ‘home ground’ for Virat Kohli, who will hope for a memorable outing there. A few days after becoming the 12th Indian cricketer to don 100 Test caps, Kohli is on the cusp of achieving a few more records and surpassing all-time greats.

With 8007 runs in 100 Tests, Kohli presently sits at the 32nd spot on the list of most run-getters in the longest format. He is just 26 runs away from leapfrogging legendary Sir Gary Sobers. One of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game, Sobers finished his career with 8032 runs and 235 wickets in 93 Tests.

Not just Sobers, he can also leapfrog Mark Waugh. The former Australia batter finished his career with 8029 Test runs. Among Indian batters, Kohli sits at the 6th spot and is 578 runs short of fifth-placed Virender Sehwag’s tally.

Apart from achieving batting records, Kohli will also add another Test cap to his career to sit alongside Gary Kirsten, Makhaya Ntini and Brendon McCullum. All the three legends donned 101 Test caps before retiring from international cricket. The list is topped by Sachin Tendulkar, who played 200 Tests.

The fans are anxiously waiting for Kohli to end his century drought and the former skipper will hope to reach the three-figure mark. Interestingly, Kohli’s previous century had come in a pink-ball Test – against Bangladesh in 2019. He is playing his first home pink-ball Test match since then. Since it’s a day-night fixture, the match will start at 2:00 PM IST and will end between 9:00 to 9:30 PM.
