  • Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is all set to make a comeback to the squad for the 2nd Test against New Zealand. Kohli, who was rested for the T20I series as well as the opening Test against New Zealand, is all set to resume captaincy duties at Wankhede. Addressing a press conference ahead of the 2nd Test, Kohli was asked if there was an update on India’s upcoming tour to South Africa.
  • In his response, Kohli said a conversation has been initiated by the newly-appointed head coach Rahul Dravid and the decision would be conveyed to the team by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the coming days.
  • “There’s a lot of planning going on. Rahul bhai (Dravid) has initiated a conversation. Need to be realistic, don’t want to be in situation where there’s confusion. We’re sure that decision will be conveyed to us by the board in the coming days,” Kohli said at the conference.
  • It was reported that players who are not a part of the Test squad for the New Zealand series were asked to quarantine and be a part of the bubble.
  • “It’s pretty natural, we are not playing in normal times so there is a lot of planning that is involved, there is a lot of preparation that is involved in understanding what exactly will go on,” said Kohli.
  • “There are players who are not part of the group right now and will be entering quarantine to join the team in the bubble to fly in a charter. Those kinds of things, you want to seek clarity as soon as possible, so we have spoken to all the senior members of the squad.”
  • Kohli added that while clarity on the South Africa tour was expected soon, the team’s focus was on the 2nd Test against New Zealand.
  • “We have been talking to the board and we are pretty confident within a day or two or pretty soon we will have absolute clarity as to what is going on,” said Kohli.
