  • In the 2nd Test between India and New Zealand, left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel on December 4 created history by taking all 10 wickets in an innings and became the third bowler after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to achieve the feat. He dismissed all 10 Indian batsmen in the first innings at the Wankhede Stadium. Patel finished with figures of 10/119 as India were bowled out for 325.
  • Patel took four wickets on Day 1 including the big dismissal of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli (0). He followed his brilliant performance on Day 1 with some incredible bowling on the second day to achieve the special record.
  • Patel completed the record in his city of birth. He was born in Mumbai before moving to New Zealand with his family at the age of eight.
  • Laker was the first player to achieve the feat in 1956 while playing for England against traditional rivals Australia. Laker finished with figures of 10-53 at Old Trafford as the hosts scripted a victory by an innings and 170 runs.
  • Meanwhile, Kumble’s record came against India’s arch-rivals Pakistan in a Test match at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla in 1999. Chasing 419, Pakistan were bowled out for 207 as Kumble bowled a spell in which he took 10 wickets while conceding just 74 runs.
  • Patel had made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2018 in Abu Dhabi. In 11 Test matches in his career so far, he has taken 39 wickets at a bowling average of 27.20. In the first Test of the series, Patel’s batting heroics had helped New Zealand save the game on the final day.
