Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front as he inspired the team to a famous eight-wicket win against Australia in the second Test at Melbourne on Tuesday.
-
In the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli, Rahane stepped up and delivered both as a batsman and a leader to help India bounce back from the Adelaide debacle and level the four-match series 1-1.
-
Rahane slammed a magnificent century in India’s first innings of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He scored 112 off 223 balls to help India post 326 runs on the board, in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 195.
-
India capitalised well on their healthy lead and bundled out Australia for 200 in the second innings after a terrific show from the bowlers.
-
India won the Test match on Day 4 comfortably with eight wickets to spare and displayed great character and fight when most Australian experts had written them off after their horror show in the first Test in Adelaide.
-
Rahane’s name was engraved on the board for his brilliant century. The Indian captain was also adjudged the Man of the Match in the MCG Test.
-
BCCI on Wednesday shared a video of Rahane’s name being engraved on the honours board at the MCG. This is the second time Rahane’s name has been engraved on the MCG honours board. His name was written on it for the first time when he hit 147 against Australia at the iconic venue in a Test match in 2014.
