  • Delhi Schools for classes 9 to 12, Colleges and Coaching institutes have received a nod to reopen for the purpose of offline teaching. Delhi Disaster Management Authority, DDMA has issued Standard Operating Procedures, SOPs for this reopening of educational institutions. According to the SOPs, classes would be filled only upto 50% seating capacity and every classroom will have to follow a different way to ensure that social distancing is maintained.
  • Delhi Schools, Colleges and Coaching Institutes have been closed since March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic started.
  • Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia officially declared with regards to this resuming on August 27 after a gathering with DDMA.

  1. As mentioned before, children will be able to take classes at a time, up to a maximum of 50% of the seating capacity of the class room.
  2. While every class will have a different time formula for social distancing and seating arrangement, attendance has not been made mandatory. If students don’t wish to attend schools as of now, they may continue taking online classes.
  3. According to the SOPs, in schools where there are morning and evening shifts, there has to be a gap of at least one hour between the two shifts.
  4. Students have to strictly refrain from sharing food, water, books, stationary items or anything else that can be a point of contact.
  5. Lunch breaks have to be given in such a way that students find themselves in an open area so that over-crowding can be avoided.
  6. Parental approval is necessary for a child to be able to come to school. If a parent does not want to send their child, they will not be forced to do so.
  7. Teaching and non-teaching staff or students living in Containment Zones are strictly prohibited from coming to schools.
  8. Schools have to mandatorily create a quarantine room in the school premises, where any child or staff can be asked to go, if needed.
  9. It must be ensured that common areas of school are cleaned regularly. There should be soap and water in the toilets. Along with this, the availability of thermal scanners, sanitisers and masks is also important in the school premises.
  10. Educational Institutes must have thermal scanners at the entry gate. Masks will be necessary for children as well as staff. Sanitisation of hands has to be done at the entry gate.
  11. Heads of Schools have been asked to arrange a meeting with the SMC members to have a proper plan in place for smooth execution.
  12. School heads also have to ensure that all teaching and non-teaching staff coming to the school are vaccinated. In case they are not, then they must get it done on priority.
As Delhi Schools, Colleges and Coaching Institutes return from September 1, a few drives are being set up to guarantee smooth working.
