Delhi schools to remain closed for now: CM Kejriwal

  • Several weeks after the release of guidelines regarding reopening schools by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told the press that the possibility of reopening the schools in the county capital has been ruled out for now.
  • On the sidelines of an event, Kejriwal told the press, “Schools are not reopening for now.” This measure has most likely been taken due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Delhi.
  • Earlier, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had announced that the schools in Delhi will remain closed till October 31, and the decision regarding reopening schools will be taken after consulting all the concerned stakeholders.
  • Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16, when the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as part of the measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. Schools in Delhi not opening for now, says Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

  • A nationwide lockdown was imposed in India by the central government on March 25 and all educational institutes, including schools, colleges, and universities, were shut down in view of the spread of coronavirus in the country.
  • While several restrictions have been eased in different phases of “unlock”, educational institutions continue to remain closed. However, as per Unlock 5 guidelines, which were recently announced by the MHA, states can take a call about reopening schools in phases.
  • Talking about the AAP government’s decision to not pay for CBSE examination fees this year, Kejriwal cited fund crunch due to the pandemic, according to PTI.
