Dharme Gowda’s suicide note ‘also like a will’; won’t reveal its contents at this point: Karnataka CM

  • Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday revealed that the Chikkamagaluru Police have found a ‘suicide note’ left behind by Karnataka Legislative Council Deputy Chairman SL Dharme Gowda.

  • Notably, Dharme Gowda’s body was found on a railway track at Gunasagar village of Kadur in Chikkamagaluru in the wee hours of Tuesday.
  • While talking to reporters, Yediyurappa said a lengthy death note left by Gowda has been found. He added that the note is also like a will as it contains details of his “property and other important personal details, therefore, we are not revealing the contents of it at this juncture”.
  • He added that the contents of the note will be revealed once the Karnataka Police conclude their investigation into the matter.
  • Meanwhile, Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai said that in the death note, Dharme Gowda has “mentioned several sensitive matters…which the police want to probe in detail. Only then the real scenario that led to such an extreme stem can be revealed.”
  • Karnataka Legislative Council Deputy Chairman SL Dharme Gowda’s last rites were held with state honours at his farmhouse in Sakarayapatna, in Kaduru taluk in Chikkamagaluru district, yesterday.
  • Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and other key prominent leaders such as ex-prime minister HD Deve Gowda, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy attended his funeral.
  • On Monday evening, Dharme Gowda had left his home in Sakharayapatna in his Santro Car. Before leaving his home, he reportedly enquired about train timings from a few people, reported IANS.
  • Earlier on Tuesday, several prominent leaders including Yediyurappa, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramiah, KPCC president DK Shivakumar, Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy expressed shock at the death of Gowda.

    “It is shocking to hear the news that Dharmegowda committed suicide. We lost a politician of impeccable personality. May the Lord have mercy on the family and fans of Dharmegowda. His death is a loss to our state and to the organisation. May the Lord grant this painful power to his family and relatives,” Kumaraswamy had said.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today called for a high-level probe through an independent agency into the death of Gowda.
    “Anguished at the sad news of the demise of Deputy Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council, SL Dharmegowda. The unfortunate incident in the House, when he was in Chair, is a serious attack on democracy,” Birla said.
