  • A few hours back, the BCCI shared a couple of pictures of Rohit taking part in a fielding session. The senior batsman was in full flow as he also dived. The members of Team India are still in Melbourne and will leave for Sydney in the next few days. Check out Rohit’s pics –

  • Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title victory, hasn’t played competitive cricket since November 10. He was named in the Test squad but did not fly to Australia from UAE as he had to return home due to personal reasons. Later, the BCCI asked him to clear a fitness test.

CONCLUSION

  • Rohit underwent the test at the National Cricket Academy on December 11 and flew to Australia in the next couple of days. As per the protocols, Rohit had to stay in isolation for two weeks, which ruled him out of the first two Tests.
  • The BCCI will be assessing his fitness in the next few days and should he be given a green signal by the trainers, Rohit will be an automatic selection in the playing XI.
  • In 2019, Rohit was promoted as an opener in Tests after he was considered too good a player to warm the bench. If Rohit plays as an opener, he might replace Mayank Agarwal, who is yet to play a big knock in Australia.
  • If asked to bat in the middle-order, Rohit might replace Hanuma Vihari. The chances of Vihari being dropped for Rohit are more.
  • The visitors will have a forced change as well. Senior pacer Umesh Yadav has been ruled out of the Test series. Since the BCCI hasn’t named his replacement, Navdeep Saini is the only pacer in the squad to take his spot. The third Test will be played in Sydney from January 7.
