BJP national general secretary CT Ravi on Wednesday tried to drag in Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar into the hijab controversy and asked him to ‘guide the misguided girl students who are prioritising hijab more than education’. Ravi retweeted Akhater’s 2022 tweet in which he had claimed that the burqa curtails basic human rights.

The Karnataka BJP MLA also advised Javed Akhtar to guide “so called Journalists, Actresses, Anchors and Others supporting Hijab in Colleges to practice what they preach”.

“Burqa curtails basic human rights even if the woman inside the burqa is not aware of it,” the Bollywood lyricist had tweeted on August 3, 2011.

With the court referring the matter to the CJ, Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said that the government notification in regards to the dress code will continue to remain in effect. Uniform is compulsory for students to attend classes, the minister stressed.
