KEY STORY

  • Celebrating his 60th birthday on Monday, veteran Indian commentator and celebrated sports presenter Harsha Bhogle picked Team India’s all-time Test XI. For any cricket pundit or ardent supporter of the Team India side, naming an all-time playing XI has always been a tough ask. When it comes to naming Team India’s all-time XI, it’s impossible to do justice with most icons of the gentlemen’s game.
  • Often dubbed as one of the most celebrated sports personalities in the global cricket broadcasting industry, Bhogle named his all-time Team India XI and surprised a couple of fans by only mentioning two active cricketers in his fantasy lineup. Bhogle, who was wished by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman on his special day only named Indian skipper Virat Kohli, spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin from the current squad in his all-time India XI.
  • Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, and Mohammad Azharuddin were not named in India’s all-time Test XI by the veteran cricket journalist and sports presenter. Bhogle picked batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar and legendary opener Virender Sehwag as the openers of his all-time XI. While Gavaskar shattered a plethora of records with his elegant batsmanship, Sehwag revolutionised the role of opener with his free-scoring style of batting.

CONCLUSION

Rahul Dravid aka The Wall was slotted in the No.3 position followed by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli was given the fifth batting spot by Bhogle while legendary captain MS Dhoni took the No.6 batting position. 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev and Ashwin were two of the bowling all-rounders named by Bhogle in his India’s all-time XI. Legendary spinner Anil Kumble, pace ace Javagal Srinath, and speed merchant Zaheer Khan complimented Bhogle’s bowling attack in India’s all-time XI.
