  • Congress leader and former party president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that he would give women reservations when asked what would be the first thing he would do if he becomes Prime Minister.
  • Gandhi’s remarks came during a Diwali dinner that he hosted for some “friends” from a school in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
  • During an “interesting interaction” with these students at his official residence in Delhi, the former Congress chief took several candid questions and enjoyed choley bhature with them
  • The brother-sister duo had earlier this year visited St Joseph’s Matric Higher Secondary School during the campaigning trail in the state.
  • “This confluence of cultures is our country’s biggest strength and we must preserve it,” Gandhi tweeted.
  • In a minute-long video shared by Gandhi on Twitter, one of the guests asked him, “What will be the first government order you will be publishing as soon as you become our Prime Minister?”

The Congress leader, who is also an MP from Kerala’s Wayanad, replied, “I would give women’s reservation.”
“If somebody asks me what would you teach your child; one thing – I would say humility, because, from humility, you get understanding,” he added.
In the run-up to the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the Congress recently announced that 40 per cent of party tickets will be reserved for women this time.
