I behaved like a fool, to be honest: When Virat Kohli embarrassed himself in first meeting with Anushka Sharma

• One of the most talked-about Indian celebrity couples, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have a huge following in the country and abroad. They are probably the most followed couple at the moment and their huge fan base on social media tells the complete story. Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team, is the only Indian to have over 100 million followers on Instagram.

• Anushka too has a huge fan base on that platform and is followed by nearly 50 million users. The power couple lives in Mumbai. Kohli was born in Delhi and also played for the national capital in junior and domestic cricket.

• Virat and Anushka, who are now a happily married couple, had first met on the sets of a shampoo commercial. They started dating in 2014 and their relationship was confirmed when Anushka accompanied Virat in international matches.

• While many would think that had a memorable first meeting, it wasn’t the case. Recalling his meeting with Anushka in an interview with Graham Bensinger on his show, Kohli had revealed that he cracked a joke, which probably wasn’t the right thing to say.

  “The first time I met her (Anushka Sharma), I cracked a joke immediately with her. I was nervous and that is why I cracked the joke, because I didn’t know what to do. Before meeting her, I was standing on set all jittery and nervous. I thought I was being funny. I just said something which wasn’t probably the right thing to say,” he told Graham Bensinger on his show. 

  “She is tall as well and she was told that I am not 6 feet or plus and ‘you must not wear massive heels or anything’. She walked in and was looking taller than me. I said, ‘Didn’t you get a higher pair of heels than these?’ She was like, ‘Excuse me?’, I said, ‘I am just joking!’ My joke actually became a weird moment for myself. I behaved like a fool, to be honest.”

   

CONCLUSION

• The couple tied the knot in December 2017. Virat had asked for a rest from the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka for his wedding. They were blessed with a baby girl in January 2021. Kohli had flown home after the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be with his wife.

• Since the BCCI and a few IPL franchises allow the family members of the players to travel with them, Anushka accompanies Virat regularly. She had travelled to Australia and also accompanied him during the India-England fixtures. She is also part of the RCB’s bubble along with family members of other players.
