IMD forecasts ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall in parts of India as southwest monsoon approaches [DETAILS]

  • New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “heavy to very heavy” rainfall in several parts of eastern and central India from June 10 onwards as southwest monsoon approaches states.
  • ”Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of the Arabian Sea and Maharashtra, some more parts of Gujarat and remaining parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh, entire Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar during next 2-3 days,” the IMD noted.
  • The weather department has also warned that the southwest monsoon would become more intense, leading to heavy rainfall in the east and central India in the coming six to seven days.

Here are the states which will be impacted by the monsoon in the coming days:

Odisha: As predicted by IMD, under the influence of low pressure is likely to be formed over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around June 11, 2021, widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur over a large number of districts of Odisha during 10th to 14th June 2021.”
Maharashtra: Heavy rains lashed Maharashtra on Wednesday, and the weather department has forecast “extremely heavy” rainfall till June 15. The state’s Konkan region could be lashed by “isolated and extremely heavy” showers from June 12-15. The IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for Mumbai, and neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places there.
Kerala & Karnataka: Karnataka is likely to experience an increase in rainfall from June 12 onwards. An orange alert has been issued for June 12 and 13 for these areas, CS Patil of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru said. Kerala is also very likely to experience heavy rainfall during June 11-15, while Konkan might experience the heavy falls again on June 12-15, the IMD said.
