India on Friday recorded 2,17,353 new coronavirus cases in the highest single-day spike ever since the pandemic began last year. The death toll surged to 1,74,308 with 1,185 more COVID-19 patients succumbing in the last 24 hours, the union ministry of health and family welfare stated.

It is the second consecutive day when over 2 lakh COVID infections have been reported.
