Karnataka allow weddings in halls, resorts from June 28 – here’s what you should know

  • Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Friday decided to allow organising of wedding ceremonies in halls, hotels, resorts, etc from June 28, Monday, across the state. Importantly, the attendance at these ceremonies will be capped at a maximum of 40 persons.
  • The decision was taken after Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held a meeting with his ministers and officials today, and the new guidelines were announced by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) through an official notification.

    Here are the new guidelines:

    • The conduct of marriage functions in chou tries, hotels, resorts, function halls, etc, shall be allowed involving not more than 40 people from June 28.
    • The attendees shall strictly adhere to Covid-appropriate behavior during the ceremony.
    • Those organising marriages shall obtain prior permission from the concerned local authority, ie., Joint Commissioner of the BBMP Zone in the BBMP area or the concerned Tahsildar at the Taluks.
    • The concerned officer shall issue only 40 passes per marriage function by name of attendees.
    • Only people with passes shall be allowed to attend the marriage function and passes shall not be transferable.
    • Strict action shall be taken against marriage organiser/owner of the facility in case of violation/non-compliance of the aforementioned measures during the marriage function.
The announcement has come hours after Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar asserted that there is no need to panic about the Delta Plus variant of the COVID-19 virus, adding that genomic sequencing labs will be set up at six places.
