  •  In a horrifying incident, a 10-year-old boy brutally thrashed with a club, forced to carry heavy stone weights on his back and hurled from one side of the room to the other after he allegedly stole money from a shop in Haveri district of Karnataka on March 16.
  • On Monday (March 22) — six days after the brutal assault — the boy breathed his last at Hubballi’s KIMS hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

    Minor boy dies after being tortured by shop owners 

     

  • As per reports, the 10-year-old victim was the son of Nagayya Hiremath and Jayashree, residents of Vppanasi village in the district’s Hanagal taluk. On March 16, the child went to a nearby shop to pick up some grocery items.
  • When he did not come back home for a considerable time, his parents went rushing to the grocery shop. They found that their son was in the custody of the shop owners, who alleged that he had stolen money from their shop.
  • They brutally assaulted the child and refused to let him go. His parents requested the shop owners to release their son but they refused to listen to them.
    The accused set the child free only by evening, following which he was dashed to a hospital in the vicinity for treatment. On March 19, he was taken to KIMS hospital, Hubballi, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 22, according to a report by The Times of India.

    Video shows child narrating his ordeal

    A video showing the now-deceased child narrating his harrowing ordeal from the hospital bed has gone viral on social media platforms. In the video, the child cries that the accused were trying to kill him. He said they place heavy stone weights on his back and brutally thrashed him.
  • According to the police the accused shop owners have been identified as Praveen Karishettar, his mother Basavannevva Karishettar, maternal grandfather Shivarudrappa Haveri and uncle Kumar Haveri. They have been booked under relevant provisions on the basis of the statement made by the boy in the video and a complaint filed by his father, a police official said.  All accused are on the run, the official added.
