  • Police in their preliminary inquiry have identified Uday Kumar Shetty of Koteshwara, Aazam of Mangaluru and Rama Poojary of Udupi as the main accused behind this racket to divert rice and efforts are on to apprehend them.
  • Based on a tip-off that rice had been illegally stored in a shed owned by Uday Kumar behind a hotel on Halady road in Koteshwara, Sadashiva R Gavaroji, PSI, Kundapur police station and staff along with Suresh, food inspector, Kundapur raided the place.
  • Authorities seized 25,120kg of rice valued at Rs 3.76 lakh, two goods transportation vehicles worth Rs 6 lakh, sewing machine and weighing scale valued at Rs 5,000. A case has been registered in Kundapur police station on a complaint from Suresh.
