The government of Karnataka is bracing for a potential third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic as Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday said that a detailed discussion was held with an expert committee to lay out modalities to prevent a collapse of the system like in the previous waves.

“In order to control the third wave of coronavirus outbreak, a detailed discussion was held with an expert committee. The committee has made some important recommendations regarding safety measures for children, medical oxygen availability, post-Covid health issues, etc…

The expert committee has also given recommendations regarding opening of schools and colleges. Students and teachers will be given priority in vaccinations,” Yediyurappa said today.

Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan also pointed out certain measures that the state government is set to undertake in order to prevent a catastrophic impact of the deadly outbreak in the southern state.
Key recommendations submitted prior to the third wave:

High-dependency units and hospitals for children need to be set up at district and taluk levels

Help from NGOs, and other medicos required

Funds from private aggregators will be needed as well

Priority will be given to malnourished people

Mental health should be given priority

Shortage of oxygen should be taken care off

Schools and colleges can be reopened

Vaccination for teachers and staff should be taken up on priority

Staggered opening of schools should be done

Colleges have to be reopened

CCCs should be set up and examinations will be held
