Karnataka: Schools, Colleges to remain shut in these districts on June 13

  • Karnataka schools and colleges in several districts to remain shut on June 13, 2022 due to the elections to the legislative council from graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies. The state government has announced holiday for the schools and colleges in the districts of Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Chamarajanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, and Uttara Kannada.
  • All government-aided and unaided institutions will remain shut. Further, the government has also announced a day off for all the teachers and graduates working for government-aided, unaided, and private schools and colleges, state and central government offices, factories, and others to cast their vote.
  • The elections will be held to four legislative council seats in which three seats will witness a fight between Bhartiya Janata Party, BJP and Congress. Remaining on the seat will also involve Janata Dal Secular as a contestant. Nominations from all three parties have already been filed and the elections are scheduled to take place on June 13, 2022.
  • Schools and colleges in Karnataka have witnessed a lot of holidays this year, primarily due to COVID and the controversial Hijab protest. Schools reopened at full pace from May 15 onwards after the education minister BC Nagesh announced reopening for the sake of learning.
  • The entire education system was affected and shut down due to pandemics for the last two years and after the cases and infection declined, state governments announced to reopening of schools and colleges gradually. Prolong closure has deeply affected the learning of the students and the administration is now emphasizing bridging the knowledge gap among the students.
