A 28-year-old man entered a lion enclosure inside the Delhi Zoo and sat in front of the wild animal in a bizarre incident on Thursday.

A man jumped into the lion enclosure at Delhi Zoo and sat face-to-face with the wild animal for some time. In a video of the incident the man can be seen crossing into the lion enclosure and walking around the lion.

The person was rescued by the Delhi Zoo staff and handed over to police. Visitors present inside the zoo tried to stop him from entering the enclosure but he ran into the area and went right in front of the lion.

The chilling video of the incident shows Rehan Khan (28) dressed in black running inside the sprawling lion enclosure, walking up to the lion and sitting in front of the animal after a few seconds. Both the lion and the man are seen staring at each other for a while.

He then lies down in front of the lion on a tree trunk while making some hand gestures. The lion which is about a feet away from the man, comes closer and continues to look at him. After a few more seconds the lion climbs up on the man who gets up from his sitting position.

The man was later brought out safely. DCP (Southeast) said, “He is Rehan Khan, a 28-yr-old man from Bihar. He seems to be mentally unstable. He was immediately brought out without any injury.”

The man climbed up a metal grill and entered the lion enclosure. Khan however escaped unhurt as the alert zoo staff quickly tranquilised the lion and rescued him.

The incident happened around 12:30 pm. The situation is under control now, zoo sources said.

Rehan Khan, a native of Bihar, was found in an inebriated state.
