Now search ‘Covid vaccine near me’ on Google to book a slot – Check steps

  • The Ministry of Health has come up with newer initiative to enhance access to Covid-19 vaccine. People will now be able to find the nearest vaccination centres to them by searching ‘Covid vaccine near me’ on Google.
  • The information was shared on Twitter by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
  • He tweeted: “The Ministry of Health has taken yet another significant initiative to enhance access to #COVID19 vaccine: Search ‘covid vaccine near me’ on Google, Check availability of slots & more, Use ‘Book Appointment’ feature to book a slot.”

  • A statement by Google read, “In March 2021, we started showing COVID-19 vaccination centers on Google, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Starting this week, for over 13,000 locations across the country, people will be able to get more helpful information about vaccine availability and appointments — powered by real-time data from the CoWIN APIs. This includes information such as:
    • Availability of appointment slots at each center
    • Vaccines and doses offered (Dose 1 or Dose 2)
    • Expectations for pricing (Paid or Free)
    • Link to the CoWIN website for booking.”
  • Earlier, the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said that more than 64.51 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and Union Territories till date.
  • “More than 64.51 crores (64,51,07,160) vaccine doses have been provided to States, UTs so far through the Government of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category,” informed an official release by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • It also said that more than 5.21 crore (5,21,37,660) balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
