  • The 2020 Nobel Prize for physics has been awarded to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Gheza for their research on black holes. A panel at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm announced the recipients on Tuesday.
  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics with one half to Roger Penrose and the other half jointly to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez.
  • Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez were awarded the prize “for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy.” Roger Penrose won the prize for showing “that the general theory of relativity leads to the formation of black holes”.
