Spider man cheering us on: Sania Mirza celebrates Wimbledon 1st round win with son; Anushka Sharma reacts

• Tennis icon Sania Mirza celebrated her 1st round win at the Wimbledon Championships by posing with her adorable son Ishaan Mirza Malik on Thursday.

• Regarded as one of the most successful Indian tennis players in the women’s division, Sania advanced to the second round with her American doubles partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands as the duo battled past sixth seeds – Desirae Krawczyk and Alexa Guarachi on Thursday at the 2021 edition of the Wimbledon Championships.

• Taking to Instagram after her impressive win in the Wimbledon doubles opener, Sania uploaded a photo with her son Ishaan as her two-year-old was spotted cheering for the Indian-US duo from the courtside at the Grand Slam event in London. “Round 1, Smiles, Spider man cheering us on, Wimbledon,” Sania captioned her post on the photo and video sharing platform.

• Taking cognisance of the post shared by the tennis icon, Bollywood actress and producer Anushka Sharma left a sweet comment on the photo. Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty also reacted to the photo shared by Sania following her emphatic return to Grand Slam tennis. Besides our beloved Bollywood celebs, fans and followers of the Indian tennis superstars also congratulated her for entering the next round of The Championships.

On Saturday, Sania and her doubles partner Bethanie bowed out of the Grand Slam event. The Russian duo of Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina defeated Sania and her partner 4-6, 3-6 in the 2nd round of the Wimbledon Championships. However, Sania is still plying her trade in the Grand Slam event as she has advanced to the 3rd round of Wimbledon mixed doubles with partner Rohan Bopanna.

The Indian duo outclassed Britain’s pair of Aidan McHugh and Emily Webley-Smith 6-3, 6-1 to enter the next round of the Grand Slam event on Sunday. Sania and Bopanna are set to lock horns with Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Rojer in the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday.
