‘Tandav’ row: Saif Ali Khan named in FIR against makers and actors of the web series

  • Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against the actors and makers of web series Tandav. Actor Saif Ali Khan, who has played a lead role in the series has also been named in the FIR.
  • The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and certain Hindu groups had objected to some scenes in the film and alleged that Hindu sentiments were hurt due to the same.
  • The BJP leaders had been going to various police stations in Mumbai alleging why when UP Police had filed a complaint against the makers of the series, was the Mumbai police reluctant to file a case.
  • Meanwhile, a team of Uttar Pradesh Police which is investigating the case reached Mumbai Police headquarters and said that they were getting cooperation from the local teams. “We had come to meet police officers at the headquarters, we are not authorised to speak,” an official from the UP Police team was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

    Tandav makers issue statement

  • A nine-episode series, Tandav is a political thriller, starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and others. On Tuesday, the makers issued a statement saying that they had decided to make changes in order to address the concerns raised by Hindu groups.
    “We have been closely monitoring viewer reactions to the web series ‘Tandav’ and today during a discussion, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have informed us regarding a large number of grievances and petitions received on various facets of the web series with serious concerns and apprehensions regarding its content hurting the sentiments of the people,” a statement issued by the team said.
  • Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the complaint against Tandav will be dealt with as per law.
