  • Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi passed away on Wednesday. Earlier this month he was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi after he contracted coronavirus disease.
  • Following his swab samples returning positive for COVID-19 on September 11, the MP from Belagavi had requested all those who came in close contact with him me in the last few days to monitor their health and get tested in case of any symptoms.
  • Several politicians cutting across party lines condoled Angadi’s death. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed pain to hear the demise of the union minister. “I remember the ever smiling Angadi-ji. Very pained at hearing this sad news”, he tweeted.
  •  Suresh Angadi was a four-time MP from Belagavi constituency in North Kannada.
  • Suresh Angadi’s induction is being looked upon as a measure strengthen the BJP’s base in North Karnataka.
  • Suresh Angadi’s political journey started with joining Bharatiya Janata Party in 1996 and went on to become a vice-president of the party in Belgaum.
  • Suresh Angadi was appointed Minister of State in Ministry of Railways. He was a four-time MP from Belagavi constituency in North Kannada.
  • He won four consecutive terms from his constituency even when the Congress swept the state in previous elections. Angadi also runs a business apart from being a full-time politician.
  • His induction is being looked upon as a measure strengthen the BJP’s base in North Karnataka. The BJP has often raked up the issue of the alleged alienation of the region by the Congress and JD(S).

  • Expressing his condolences to Angadi’s family, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra prayed for the ‘departed soul’.
