  • A day after voicing his opinion on the farmers’ protest in the country, skipper Virat Kohli has revealed that members of the Indian cricket team had a discussion about the ongoing agitation ahead of the upcoming Test series between England and hosts India.
  • Kohli, who has recently returned to the Indian Test squad, said that the issue of farmers’ protest was briefly discussed in the team meeting on Thursday.
  • Regarded as one of the finest batsmen in the modern era across all formats, Kohli will lead the Indian national team in the four-match Test series against Joe Root’s England.
  • Chairing a traditional press conference in the build-up to the 1st Test between the two teams, Kohli was asked about his views on the farmers’ protest in India.
  • Confirming that issue of the farmer crisis in India was brought up during the team meeting, Kohli said that members of the Indian contingent shared their opinions about the issue.
  • “Any issue which is present in the country, we do talk about it and everyone has expressed what they had to say about the issue. That’s about it, we briefly spoke it (farmers’ protest) in the team meeting and then we carried on discussing the team’s plans,” Kohli responded when he was asked about the farmers’ agitation in a virtual press conference on the eve of 1st Test.
  • Kohli’s remarks have come after pop sensation Rihanna and climate activist Greta Thunberg courted controversy by extending their support to the farmers’ protest in India. On Wednesday, Kohli had urged the citizens to stay united in the wake of the nationwide protests against the farm laws.

CONCLUSION

Let us all stay united in this hour of disagreements. Farmers are an integral part of our country and I’m sure an amicable solution will be found between all parties to bring about peace and move forward together,” Kohli had said in a tweet.
