  • Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday claimed that the Modi government lied to the people of the country regarding the international crude oil prices.
  • He also slammed the Central government for increasing taxes “unnecessarily”.
  • Talking about the fuel prices in the country, the Telangana CM said, “The Centre has lied on petrol and diesel prices, crude oil prices were 105 US dollars in 2014 and now it is 83 US dollars. BJP lied to the public saying that prices of petrol and diesel have increased internationally.”
  • KCR’s remarks have come on the day when it was reported that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is set to hike the bus fares by 25-30 paise per kilometre in view of the increase in diesel prices and continued in losses.

Questioning the Modi government’s policies, K Chandrasekhar Rao asked, “What has BJP done in the last 7 years? India’s GDP is less than Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Centre has increased taxes unnecessarily.”
Warning the Telangana BJP leaders, he said, “We will cut your tongues if you pass unnecessary comments on us. China is attacking us in Arunachal Pradesh but Centre hasn’t taken any action.”
Concluding the press conference, he announced that his party Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) will support the farmers who are protesting against the three farm laws.
Last week, the Centre announced to decrease excise duty on petrol and diesel lowering the petrol prices by Rs 5 and diesel price by Rs 10. The centre also urged the states to reduce VAT (a revenue enjoyed by the state) on fuel so as to give further relief to the people.
In line with the Centre’s announcement, 22 NDA ruled states have reduced VAT but 14 states including Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, West Bengal decided not to slash prices triggering political controversy.
