You might come to us next year: Hardik Pandya names 1 Mumbai Indians player he wishes to have in GT

HIGHLIGHTS
  • For the first time in his Indian Premier League (IPL) career, Hardik Pandya will be playing against his former franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI). After being released by MI last year, Hardik Pandya was picked by Gujarat Titans (GT) and was given the charge of the team. Since MI and GT are in different groups, they will only square off once in the tournament.
  • It might be an emotional moment for Pandya, who was first spotted by MI. He was handed his IPL debut during IPL 2015 and was a capped player by the next season. Not just Hardik, MI also handed a debut to his brother, Krunal. The spin bowling all-rounder now plays for Lucknow Super Giants.
  • Hardik was part of MI’s title wins in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 while Krunal lifted the trophy thrice after joining them in 2016.
  • Before the much-awaited tie, GT posted a video of Hardik, where he talked about MI veteran Kieron Pollard and said that he wishes to have in his team. Pollard has been with MI since 2010 and was one of the 4 players retained by them before the IPL 2022 mega auction.
  • “I wish Polly (Pollard) to have the best day for him, but we win. I kind of messaged him few days as well that hope you’re okay and hope you’re doing well. I said we kind of miss you here. In a joking way, I said ‘You never know, you might come to us next year!’ It’s my wish but I know it’s never going to happen,” he said.
  • A former national captain, Pollard is among very few players who have played for just one franchise in their careers. He has 3393 runs and 68 wickets in 187 matches. Pollard also leads MI in Rohit Sharma’s absence.
  • The chances of MI releasing Pollard are bleak but like we saw before the IPL 2022 mega auction, the franchises can sometimes make some tough calls.
