Airline, airport staff to get Covid jabs in these states

Covid-19 vaccines are being administered to senior citizens and those who having co-morbidities in the age bracket of 45-59. However, there are other high-risk groups such as aviation sector workers which are getting the attention of state governments.
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have begun the process of administering Covid-19 jabs to airline and airport staff, according to a report in Economic Times. IndiGo is the only Indian airline to have announced offer vaccinations for staff and their family members.
Vaccination of airline and airport members in Uttar Pradesh is currently being done only at Kanpur airport and not at bigger airports such as Lucknow or Varanasi, the report added. The pace of vaccination at the Delhi airport is reportedly sluggish and yet to pick up the pace.
Only the state governments are administering jabs at airports under their jurisdiction. Currently, airport staff and airline employees are being inoculated at airports such as Delhi but not at Bengaluru, Mumbai or Hyderabad, it added.
It was also reported that the Karnataka government earlier listed aviation sector employee as frontline workers but later rolled back the circular.
The aviation industry had requested the government to consider its employees as frontline workers. Aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola had urged the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW to consider the suggestion which hasn’t been accepted yet.

Health Secretary said the country is approaching 2.5 crore total vaccination coverage, powered by the fastest recent growth in vaccination globally.
There is no shortage of vaccine doses in any state and UT, said the Health Ministry in a recent statement. All states have been advised to register and activate all private facilities and also provide sufficient stock of vaccines to the private facilities for 15-28 days so that these facilities can offer online open slots to citizens, it added.
