Coronavirus in Delhi: Containment zones rise to over 4,550

  • New Delhi: Amid a rise in coronavirus cases in Delhi, the number of containment zones has surged to 4,560 in the national capital. The maximum number of containment zones in Delhi is in the southwest district (743) and the lowest in the northeast district (148).

Delhi corona cases

  • Official data suggests that six out of the total 11 districts have over 400 COVID-19 containment zones – 743 (southwest), 705 (south), 587 (west), 543 (southeast), 490 (central Delhi) and 445 (northwest).
  • Delhi has recorded a spike in coronavirus positive cases since October 28, when the daily rise crossed the 5,000-mark for the first time. The numbers zoomed past the 8,000-mark on November 11.
  • With 7,546 fresh cases on Thursday, the infection tally in Delhi increased to more than 5.1 lakh and the death toll stands at 8,041.
  • As per the revenue department, New Delhi and Shahdara districts have 264 and 249 containment zones respectively. North Delhi has 202 COVID-19 containment zones, east Delhi – 184, northeast district – 148.

CONCLUSION

  • In the meantime, the administration has begun a door-to-door survey in order to identify and test people symptomatic for coronavirus in congested areas of the city.
  • As per officials, the survey will be completed within five days. More than 57 lakh people will be tested in containment zones, dense areas and identified clusters of virus transmission.
  • The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had yesterday announced various measures, including a Rs 2,000 fine for not wearing masks, reservation of 80 per cent ICU beds in private hospitals, in order to tackle rising number of COVID-19 cases.
  • The Union Health Ministry on Thursday said by recording 131 deaths on Wednesday, Delhi accounted for 22.39 per cent of the COVID-19 fatalities recorded across India in a span of 24 hours and became the largest contributor to the single-day coronavirus-related deaths in India.
