Facebook Collab experimental music-making app launched

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The app isn’t directly integrated with Facebook as yet
  • The app is aimed at taking on TikTok
Facebook Collab — the experimental music-making app that first unveiled in beta in May, is now available for all iOS users. The experimental app for making collaborative music videos from the social networking giant is aimed at taking on ByteDance-owned TikTok, the media has reported.
Facebook Collab was initially unveiled in May, as an invite-only beta option for Apple devices.
The global coronavirus pandemic has led to no live concerts, which also means bad news for musicians. Hence, most of them turned to online platforms to experiment with live-stream concerts and jam sessions in order to keep the connections flowing. Aiming to fill this space, Facebook has stepped up, with Colab, and its mix of short-form video and the collaborative aspects of modern social media, albeit with a direct focus on music.
According to the Facebook Colab Apple App Store page: “We make sure that as you swipe, the videos play at exactly the right moment to be in sync.”
The app isn’t directly integrated with Facebook so far, but users can export the finished products to their Instagram story via the iOS share sheet.
