Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on August 9 and was treated by a multi-disciplinary team of senior doctors.

Hospital sources had earlier said he was on life support. Jaitley, a lawyer by profession, had been a key member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet in the BJP government’s first term.

He held the finance and defense portfolios, and often acted as the chief troubleshooter of the government.

Arun Jaitley spoke to India Today on March 8,

where he answered several questions on the NDA government’s perceived failure in handling the Kashmir issue and New Delhi’s position on Pakistan.

Arun Jaitley’s comments remained significant as they came soon after tensions escalated between India and Pakistan after India launched Balakot strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

India’s retaliation came days after more than 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a suicide bomb blast in Pulwama.

“India’s stand on terror will remain unchanged until Islamabad takes credible action against terrorists,” said Arun Jaitley at India Today Conclave.

On Kashmir, which remains to be edge till date, Arun Jaitley emphasized that the country cannot afford to alienate Kashmiris while combating with separatist leaders and terrorists.

While endorsing former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s “Kashmiriyat” policy,

Arun Jaitley regretted that the focus of identity in the Kashmir Valley has shifted from “regional” to “religious”.

The senior BJP leader at the event further had expressed sorrow then by saying, that “Sufism is giving way to Wahhabism.”

Arun Jaitley had also shared comments on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-BJP 2014 alliance.

“The alliance with the PDP in J&K was an unconventional experiment that did not work.
