KEY STORY

  • Team India will host a rejigged England in a must-win affair in Chennai from Saturday (February 13). Despite losing the opening game, the Virat Kohli-led side is unlikely to ring many changes. Axar Patel, who missed the opening game due to knee injury, walking in for Shahbaz Nadeem is the only change that one can expect.
  • R Ashwin will continue to lead the spin attack and is likely to be assisted by Washington Sundar and debutant Axar. There is no question mark over the place of any other player.
  • On the other hand, England are confirmed to have 4 changes. James Anderson and Dom Bess, who played a key role in England’s first win in India after 4 consecutive defeats, have been rested. Jos Buttler has been given a break and he has returned home. Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the game due to an elbow issue.
  • Stuart Broad, Ben Foakes and Moeen Ali are confirmed to be part of the playing XI while all-rounder Chris Woakes and Olly Stone will compete for the 4th vacant spot. Given Woakes’ all-round abilities, he is likely to get the nod.

Match prediction:

  • The prediction for the opening Test wasn’t on the expected lines largely due to the Chennai pitch. As per Indian bowlers, they bowled on a road on the first 2 days. As a result, the English batsmen batted for 2 days and 10.2 overs in their first innings (190.1 overs).
  • This time, the track is highly expected to turn from day 1, which can largely benefit India. Ashwin, who scalped a six-for in the 2nd innings, single-handedly packed England on a low score and he is expected to do the job in the 2nd Test as well.
  • Given the spin factor, India are favourites going into the Test and the home team is likely to level the series.
