Karnataka: 16-year-old girl student gang-raped while going to school in Dakshin Kannada

  •  There seems to be no end to crime against women and children across the country. In a fresh incident, a 16-year-old girl student was allegedly gang-raped while she was going to school in Karnataka.
  • The horrific incident took place in Dakshin Kannada district on Friday. Police have now taken two people into custody, said SP Rishikesh Sonawane.
  • The girl in her complaint to police stated that she was abducted in a car by a person known to her while she was on her way to school.
  • There were four other occupants in the car who were accused of gang-raping her.
  • Police said they have filed a case against the accused under Sections 366(a) (inducing a minor girl) 376(D), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Cops say further probe is underway in the case.
  • In a similar incident reported from Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, a Class 12 student was kidnapped and raped allegedly by an e-rickshaw driver. The girl later died of her injuries.  The crime took place when the girl was returning home from school.
CONCLUSION
  • The local police have rounded up some suspects after the victim’s family staged a protest at the police station. Meerut SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary said police have detained some suspects after scanning CCTV footage.
  • The horrific incident took place as the girl was waiting for an e-rickshaw to go home after the exam on Wednesday. However, she did not return home. Later, the family mounted a search but failed to locate her. She was later dumped outside her home.
