  • Pollard, who walked out to bat at 5, remained unbeaten and completed the chase, scoring the required 16 in the final over against Lungi Ngidi. None of the other MI batsmen even managed a half-century.
  • The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock provided a solid start to the team in the big chase to the target of 219, adding 71 runs for the opening wicket in 7.4 overs. Shardul Thakur got the big scalp when he dismissed the MI skipper in the 8th over. Suryakumar Yadav followed him soon and walked back for 3 off 3. CSK sort of derailed the chase with de Kock’s scalp in the 10th over.
  • Pollard took the charge and did the repair work with the bat. He got going with three sixes in Ravindra Jadeja’s over. He added 89 runs for the 4th wicket with Krunal Pandya (32).

  • The West Indies white-ball captain continued with his power-hitting and added crucial 32 runs with Hardik. Pollard was also dropped by Faf du Plessis when he was on 68. The former South Africa captain redeemed himself by taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Hardik (16 off 7) in the very next over.
  • Sam Curran, who bowled the 19th over, went for 15 runs and dismissed Pandya and James Neesham. Ngidi was given the responsibility to bowl the final over. But he couldn’t defend 16 runs.
  • Earlier in the game, CSK didn’t start on a positive note as in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed off Trent Boult after a boundary. The Yellow Army bounced back strongly after the early wicket, with Moeen Ali doing the repair work.
  • The left-handed batsman took the lead role in the partnership with Faf du Plessis and smashed 58 off just 36 balls. His knock included 5 sixes.
  • Plessis also continued his form and finished at 50 off 28. He struck at 178.57. The senior duo put up 108 runs for the 2nd wicket in just 10.1 overs. Bumrah gave MI the breakthrough and got Moeen caught by de Kock.

  • CSK lost the next 2 wickets for just 4 runs as Kieron Pollard sent back Plessis and Suresh Raina (2) on back-to-back deliveries.

CONCLUSION

  • When it seemed like CSK’s quest to score 200 may turn out to be a distant dream, Ambati Rayudu stepped up against his former franchise. The senior batsman sent MI’s fielders on the leather hunt and remained unbeaten on 72 off just 27 balls. His knock included 7 sixes and  4 boundaries.

  • Rayudu combined with Ravindra Jadeja to add 102 runs for the 5th wicket in just 8 overs. Pollard, who scalped 2 wickets, was MI’s most successful bowler.
