Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik Chakraborty was on Wednesday granted bail by a special NDPS court in Mumbai, nearly three months after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested him in the drug probe in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.
The NCB had raided Showik Chakraborty’s home on September 4, following which he was arrested under sections of the NDPS Act (peddle, procure and consume narcotic drugs and substances).
Charges against Showik Chakraborty
Showik Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda were arrested in September by the NCB under sections 8c, 28, 29 of the NDPS Act. Section 8c of NDPS Act means prohibition of certain operations in which no person shall produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-state, export inter-state, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance.
Following the arrest, the NCB claimed that Showik was a facilitator not only for Sushant but also arranged narcotics for some other Bollywood stars. The NCB said during the questioning, Showik confessed to the NCB that he used to buy drugs at Rhea’s behest.
