With the growing influence of weight-loss diets, green tea has become a quite popular beverage in recent times. Despite incorporating it into their daily lifestyle, people often end up experiencing futile results. This gives rise to a question – To reap maximum benefits of green tea, is there a right way to do it? On September 17, the special day of Michiyo Tsujimura’s birthday, the women who first discovered the natural occurrence of vitamin C in green tea, let us talk about the right way to drink the healthy beverage.

How to drink green tea?

Here are some ways to drink your green tea the right way:
  1. Avoid taking it with or immediately after meals: As soon as food enters the mouth, it kickstarts the process of digestion. Drinking green tea with meals or immediately after it can lead to inadequate absorption of nutrients from green tea causing people to miss out on certain benefits of the beverage.
  2. Don’t add honey to a boiling pot: Honey comes with its wonderful benefits and is often added to sweeten the bitter taste of the beverage. Adding honey to a boiling pot during the preparation of the tea can cause it to lose its nutrients. Therefore, to retain the benefits of honey, it must not be added to a hot cup of green tea.
  3. Pay heed to the sweetener: A variety of sweeteners such as honey, stevia, brown sugar, and jaggery are often used to sweeten up green tea. However, if no attention is paid to the portion or quality, it can do more harm to the body than good.
  4. Do not overdo it: Green tea indeed is a healthy drink. However, going overboard with the drink and not being mindful about its consumption can lead to digestive issues and sleeping problems. The recommended drinking frequency should be 2 – 3 times a day.
  5. Avoid pre-bedtime green tea plans: About 35 mg of caffeine is present in a cup of green tea. While it may not have as significant effects on the body as compared to coffee, it can cause disrupted sleep in some. To prevent this from happening, drinking green tea before bed must be avoided.
